Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil & Olives from Western Greece

Olive oil is particularly characteristic of the Mediterranean diet. It contains a very high level of monounsaturated fats, most notably oleic acid, which epidemiological studies suggest may be linked to a reduction in coronary heart disease risk. There is also evidence that the antioxidants in olive oil improve cholesterol regulation and LDL cholesterol reduction, and that it has other anti-inflammatory and anti-hypertensive effects. Different parts of the Mediterranean have different eating habits which can only be described as variation on the same theme, the MEDITERRANEAN DIET, whose main ingredient is OLIVE OIL.

Extra pure olive-oil is called the juice of the fruit of olive trees and it is extracted from olives by crushing and not with the use of chemical solvents (by contrast with other kinds of oils).Of particular importance is the fact that the World Health Organization (WHO) has adopted the pyramid of the Mediterranean diet. In this pyramid, olive oil is introduced as the main added lipid. This was elaborated by the school of Public Health of the University of Harvard in co-operation with the National School of Public Health of Greece and other institutions and is recommended as a healthy diet model.
