The privately owned single vineyard spans an area of 50 acres on a site on the north side of Mount Boumistos of the Akarnanian Mountains at an altitude of 500 to 600 meters. The climate of the region is mild continental with cool summer, without spring frosts.

The rocky limestone soil of the estate, enriched with rich forest soil, good sunshine, cool microclimate and traditional cultivation with the rules of organic farming, guarantee the production of grapes with excellent quality characteristics and the creation of wines, with a rich body, unique aromas, balanced taste and long aftertaste.

The sloping exposure of the estate and the continuous breath of air, create a unique mountain microclimate, with reduced the relative humidity of the atmosphere that minimizes the development of fungal and entomological infestations and makes realistic the successful organic cultivation of the vine, which results in the production of high quality wines.

In the vineyard, are planted and cultivated in its largest area, the red variety of “Agiorgitiko” and the white aromatic variety "Malagouzia" which is a native variety of Aitoloakarnania. The red varieties “Xinomavro” and the international “Syrah”, “Sauvignon Cabernet” and “Merlot” and the white Greek varieties “Assirtiko”, “Robola”, “Moschofilero” and the French varieties “Chardonnay” and “Sauvignon Blanc” are grown to a lesser extent.

   Maintenance of organic balance in the vineyard

 

In the organic vineyard, utilizing the modern conquests of agricultural science, but also the rich experience of the local tradition, we succeed in providing solutions to everyday cultivation problems without the use of chemical fertilizers & pesticides. Special attention is paid to the issue of lubrication. The soil is treated as a living whole, striving to achieve a dynamic balance between its organic & inorganic phase (fertility). For this purpose we use the incorporation of organic matter with the combination of organic compost, manure & green manure.

The treatment of Enemies & Diseases is based on the existing knowledge in relation to the biological relationships between harmful and beneficial organisms, so that with our careful interventions we maintain a balance for the regulation of their populations, in order to reduce the harmful ones for the production of organisms at levels that do not cause serious problems in the vineyard. Where and when it is necessary to make some interventions to reduce harmful organisms, the appropriate natural plant protection products are used.

The result of the organic way of cultivation is offered by authentic grapes & wines, with traditional Mediterranean flavors that remain unforgettable, completely free of Chemical Residues and free of Genetically Modified Organisms, ensuring the health of consumers and protecting the environment from chemical & genetic pollution.

  The region and its history

 

 

 

The area of the Akarnanian Mountains has been continuously inhabited since prehistoric times. Most of the cities – states that made up the akarnan sin were in the Akarnanian Mountains (Medeon, Torivia, Thirio, Kecropia). Ancient Torivia, located at a distance of 3 km from KAPOTIS ESTATE, is the oldest city – state of Aitoloakarnania with cyclopean walls and curved gates that are preserved very well until our days.

Through the estate passed the road (path) of the hinterland of Aitoloakarnania to the west coast (Mytikas - Kandyla) until the middle of last century when the current highways were carved.

In this area of the difficult north side of Mountain Boumistos with the virgin forest that survives until today run the inhabitants of ancient Alysia when the city was occupied and destroyed by the Dorians the mountainous area is only 12 km from the beautiful beaches of the Ionian Sea (Mytikas).

KAPOTIS ESTATE is located on the north side of Mountain Boumistos on the outskirts of virgin & beautiful forest of Elatis Kefalonia and many other deciduous and evergreen trees. In the forest we meet dozens of species of wild birds.
